A resident of Kentwood, Roy Hugh Fleming, Jr., M.D. passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. He was born January 22, 1950 in Alexandria and was 66 years of age. He was a beloved and cherished husband, father and grandfather. He grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Bolton High School in 1968. He attended LSU Undergraduate School from 1968-1970 and LSU Medical School from 1970-1974. His internship was done at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He became board certified in Neurology in April 1979. He had a private neurology practice from 1977-1978 in Biloxi and Gulfport, MS and from 1978-2013 in Metairie. He worked at Hand Surgical Associates of Louisiana in Metairie from Sept. 2013 until June 2016. He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and a member of Undergraduate Medical and surgical Society. From 2001 until 2016, he was elected by his peers for the inclusion in Best Doctors in America. He was selected as Outstanding Pecan Grower in Louisiana by the Louisiana Pecan Growers Association. He was staffed at both East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie and at Ochsner Medical Center in Kenner. He was Director of EEG Lab at Gulfcoast Community Center in Biloxi and Gulfport, MS from 1977-1978; Director of EEG Lab at Seventh Ward General Hospital in Hammond from 1977-1986; Director of EEG Lab at East Jefferson General Hospital in Metairie from 1977-1986 and Director of EEG Lab at Doctor’s Hospital of Jefferson in Metairie from 1986 until the facility closed. He is survived by his wife, Martha “Marty” Pike Fleming, Kentwood, previously of Mandeville and Metairie; two sons, Jonathon Richland Fleming, Metairie and Jason Bradford Fleming, M.D. and Meghan Benedetto, Manchester, NH; granddaughter, Whitney Lousie Fleming; two sisters, Peggy Fleming, California, and Jane Fleming O’Brien, Baton Rouge, and brother, Robert Fleming and wife, Becky, Covington. Preceded in death by his father, Roy Hugh Fleming, Sr.; mother, Hortense Tassin Fleming Crifasi; father-in-law, John I. Pike, M.D.; sister, Sylvia Fleming Minor and brother, Paul Fleming. Visitation was held at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, until religious services on Saturday, July 16, 2016. Interment Tangipahoa Cemetery, Tangipahoa.
