Joshua David Chautin, at the young age of 14, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Ochsner Hospital for Children in New Orleans. He was a resident of Kiln, Mississippi and a former resident of St. Bernard Parish. Joshua began making the world a better place when he was born on January 10, 2002 at East Jefferson Hospital. He began his nearly 11-year battle with leukemia shortly after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. It would come back again in early 2013, and most recently in June of this year. Throughout it all, Joshua remained strong and courageous and always wore a smile. He loved chicken Rice-A-Roni, pizza, board and video games, the Saints, the LSU Tigers, and pretty girls.
He leaves behind a family that loved him deeply, including his parents Erin and Kim (McDaniel) Chautin, of Kiln, Mississippi, his older sister Tiffany and his twin brother Colby, also of Kiln; his paternal grandmother Beverlyn Chautin, of Kiln, Mississippi; his maternal grandparents Kelvin and Cherye McDaniel, of Stoney Point, Louisiana; maternal great-grandparents John and Velma Lancaster, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; aunts and uncles Dianna Chautin, Erwin Chautin, Dean and Janelle (Chautin) Alfonso, Eric Chautin, Stephen and Kelly (McDaniel) McElveen, and Charlie and Crystal (McDaniel) McElroy; cousins Melissa, John, Jessica, and River Alfonso, Mack, Gentry, and Kennedy McElveen, and Emma and Eli Mason; a large extended family, and a host of friends and classmates at Hancock Middle School that loved him as family. Joshua was well-known by many that followed his battle with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and most recently, treatment-related Acute Myeloid Leukemia. He was covered in prayer for the last 10 years, 9 months, and 2 weeks.
Joshua was preceded in death and welcomed into Heaven by his paternal grandfather Erwin Chautin and his great-grandmother Leatrice McDaniel.
The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all of the medical staff at Ochsner Hospital for Children that have treated Joshua over the years; most especially, Drs. Lotterman, Vasquez, and Fletcher and Nurses Michelle, Angela, Nicole, and Caroline.
Funeral services for Joshua will be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Viewing for friends and family will begin at 10:00 AM until the funeral service at 1:00 PM, with Bro. Willie Tebo and Bro. Brent King officiating. He will be laid to rest at in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Alfonso, River Alfonso, Mack McElveen, Gentry McElveen, Lloyd ‘Trey” Poincot III, Cory LeBlanc, and Melvin Enmon.
