Elmon Jewel Blades, a lifetime resident of the Spring Creek Community in Kentwood, LA, was born October 29, 1923, and passed away May 25, 2016. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in World War II on the USS Ranger, a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church, long time dairy and beef cattle farmer. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ivy Beryl Forrest Blades; children, Gloria Jean Blades Strickland and husband, Denny Roy, Jackie Blades Williams and husband, Kenny, Forrest Jewel Blades and wife, Denise; sister, Josephine “Jo” Blades Morel; sisters-in-law, Betty Thornhill Blades and Jeanette Crawford Blades; grandchildren, Robbie Strickland, Toby Strickland, Rebekah Blades DiCicco and husband, Dominick, Clinton “Fred” Blades and wife, Jenna; great grandchildren, Denni Zobrist, Truett Strickland, Olivia and Isabella DiCicco, and Colton Blades. He is preceded in death by his parents, Noah “Duby” Blades and Jenny Mae “Tenny” Dykes Blades; siblings, Earl Blades, Mildred “Zip” Blades Hammons, Darrell Blades, Evelyn “Shorty” Blades and infant brother. The visitation was held at Spring Creek Baptist Church from 9 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016. The services were conducted by Dr. Danny Smith. The interment will be in Spring Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the Spring Creek Baptist Church Building Fund.
