Ernest Marion Jones, Jr., a native of Auburn, MS and resident of Gonzales, LA passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 15, 2016 at the age of 83. Ernest was involved in the school system for 47 years, working as a principal, teacher, and coach. He was a high school official for 34 years. In Ernest’s free time, he enjoyed fishing, wood working, and spending time with his family and friends. Ernest was a proud Gideon and was very involved in the church and mission work. Ernest proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Corporal for the Military Police. Ernest is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Margaret Bowlin Jones; daughters, Debra Jones Russell and husband, Ricky, Vicky Jones Burtt and husband, Billy, Janeen Jones Patel and husband, Raju; sons, Darryl Wayne Jones and Marion Keith Jones; sister, Joyce Jones Byrd and husband, Jerry; brothers, Bob Jones and wife Versie, Norman Jones and wife, Bea; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ernest is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest, Sr. and Mary Jetmore Jones, and his twin brother, Edward Jones. Visitation was held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 10 a.m. until the funeral service in the Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment followed at Hope Haven Garden of Memories in Gonzales. David Burtt, Daniel Burtt, Parker Lombard, Joey Chaisson, Jacob Nemeth and Hudson Lombard served as pallbearers. To offer condolences to the family, please visit www.oursofh.com.
